A look back at a century of triumphs
CENTURY // Stoke City’s 100th Premier League victory was earned in match number 313 – 2,989 days after the first against Aston Villa in August 2008.
LEADERSHIP // Mark Hughes has racked up 44 wins from 123 games in the Potters hotseat. The first 56 were recorded from Tony Pulis’ 190 matches in charge.
BREAKDOWN // 70 of the 100 victories have been produced on home soil. Interestingly, the 30 away triumphs are split equally between both managers.
PRIDE OF THE MIDLANDS // 14 of the 100 victories have been recorded against Midlands rivals Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion. City have beaten both sides seven times each.
STALWARTS // Glenn Whelan has featured in 89 of City’s successful century whilst Ryan Shawcross has appeared in 84. The skipper has actually started more of those matches than Whelan though – 83 compared to 74.
SCORESHEET // 41 different Stoke players have scored in the 100 wins with Jonathan Walters having netted the most (23 including the only hat-trick in the Club’s Premier League era). There have also been eight own goals during that time.
RESULT // 33 of the 100 wins have ended 1-0, the most common scoreline. The biggest victory was of course the 6-1 thrashing of Liverpool in May 2014.
IN FORM // The most successive victories earned is four. A home triumph over Blackburn Rovers in November 2011 was followed by December successes at Everton, at home to Tottenham Hotspur and then away against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
ENDURE // City went nine games without victory in 2008/09, the longest run in a single Premier League season. After victory over West Bromwich Albion in November 2008, the Potters had to wait until the end of January for a James Beattie inspired win over Manchester City. Stoke actually had an 11-game winless streak if you overlap the final six games of 2011/12 with the first five of 2012/13.
50/50 // Charlie Adam earned Stoke a 50th Premier League win with the only goal of the home game against Fulham in November 2012. Of the starting line-up that day, six players remain at the Club now (Cameron, Shawcross, Whelan, Adam, Walters, Crouch).
LADDER // The Potters became the 20th team to record 100 Premier League victories. The last team to reach the landmark were Leicester City, who earned theirs with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on the corresponding October weekend last year!
