Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side to be “clever” when they take on Monaco in a must-win clash on Tuesday. Tottenham could be eliminated from the Champions League at the Stade Louis II if they fail to take all three points and Bayer Leverkusen beat CSKA Moscow.
Pochettino’s side will know what they must do to keep their European dream alive by the time the match kicks off as Leverkusen’s game in Russia is an earlier kick off, but even if CSKA deny the German side a win a draw may not be enough for the Premier League outfit when the group stages have been completed.
Spurs also have a few injury worries to contend with as there are doubts over Dele Alli (knee) and Mousa Dembele (foot), while Harry Kane only returned from a spell on the sidelines with an ankle problem at the weekend.
Monaco have not been beaten at home this season and the Spurs manager is well aware his side will have to be at their best to take all three points.
“We must win but we need to see whether players have fully recovered or not,” said Pochettino.
He added: “We have a very good team in front of us and we have to be clever.
“Some players might need to start on the bench and then come on and make an impact.”
Spurs are 7/4 to take all three points at Monaco on Tuesday.
The Ligue 1 outfit are 12/5 to secure a point, which would be enough to ensure their progress, or 7/4 to grab a win.
