Dele Alli is currently worth more to Tottenham than Paul Pogba is to Manchester United.
That is the view of Peter Beagrie, who had tipped then-MK Dons midfielder Alli for international honours in his role as Sky Sports‘ resident EFL expert.
Spurs paid MK Dons just £5m for Alli in February 2015, while Manchester United forked out a world-record £93.25m to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford in the summer.
“On current form it’s Alli every day of the week,” he said. “I watched him at MK Dons and saw his maturity.
“He’s terrific playing behind the striker, he’s got the mobility and football intelligence to run beyond the striker and can also drift into wide positions. He loses no opportunity to shoot at goal, and he’s got loads of self-belief.
“There’s no doubt Pogba on his day is absolutely outstanding, but on current form and value to his team it’s got to be Dele Alli.”
Suggestions that Jose Mourinho is still searching for his best midfield combination are “bang on”, according to Beagrie, who reckons United might have their hands full dealing with their visitors’ “dynamism” this weekend.
