International victories for City trio
XHERDAN SHAQIRI helped Switzerland take over top spot in World Cup qualifying Group B with a late win over Hungary.
The Stoke City winger played for 81 minutes of the game in Budapest which the Swiss won 3-2 to move into pole position.
Switzerland looked like being frustrated after Hungary twice equalised but with just 60 seconds left on the clock Valentin Stocker, who had just joined the action as a substitute just moments earlier, popped up to bag what could prove to be a vital winger.
Shaqiri, who was winning his 57th international cap, was off the field at that stage having been replaced by Gelson Fernandes.
Switzerland’s next game will see them away from home again on Monday when they face Group B minnows Andorra.
Geoff Cameron, meanwhile, took his tally of caps to 47 as the USA beat Cuba 2-0 in a friendly at the Pedro Marrero Stadium in Havana.
Next up for Cameron and the US is another friendly against New Zealand at RFK Stadium in Washington on Tuesday.
Daniel Bachmann completed a clean sweep of success for City stars as he helped Austria’s Under-21 side beat the Faroe Islands 1-0 in a Euro 2017 qualifier in Toftir.
Austria are second in qualifying Group 7 behind Germany who, ironically, they play in St Polten on Tuesday in their final qualifier.
Germany can’t be overhauled and have already clinched a place at next summer’s finals in Poland but victory for Austria on Tuesday could see them clinch a Play-Off spot.
