Tottenham Hotspur hope to have Toby Alderweireld back in action within the next two weeks, with the central defender still battling to shake off a knee problem. The Belgium international is not quite ready for the weekend derby clash with West Ham at White Hart Lane, having been out of action since a 1-1 Premier League draw at West Brom just over a month ago.
It is maybe a few weeks or 10 days for him to be available if all is going well.
And Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that getting Alderweireld back in the fold has taken a little longer than the club had expected at first.
With his side without a win in the six games which Alderweirled has missed, Pochettino told reporters: “From the beginning we believed it would be a very short process and period before Toby was available, but the recovery was very slow.
“The knock he got affected the nerve, but today he has started to join the group and that is very good news. It is maybe a few weeks or 10 days for him to be available if all is going well.”
Meanwhile, England midfielder Dele Alli is also a doubt for the visit of the Hammers due to a knee injury, but Pochettino is hopeful that fit-again striker Harry Kane could play a major part.
Kane was not quite fit enough to feature for England after only recently recovering from an ankle problem, but Pochettino is considering whether to hand a start to his star striker in a bid to get his side back to winning ways.
He added: “We’ll see about Harry and whether he is ready to play 90 minutes.
“The training was good after the international team, but he felt a bit tired today because it was hard training from Monday until today. But, yes, maybe (he is okay) to play 90 minutes.”
Kane can be backed at 20/21 to score at any time against the Irons and is 7/2 to net the final goal of the game, while Spurs are 7/1 to claim a 2-0 victory on home turf.
