Arsene Wenger has urged his Arsenal side to see off Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday to ensure they finish at the top of their Champions League group. The Gunners and the French champions are both on 10 points at the top of Group A and the winner of Wednesday’s meeting at the Emirates Stadium will almost certainly end up at the top of the pile, and earn a favourable draw for the first knockout round as a result.
Arsenal have been eliminated at the last 16 stage in six successive seasons, but finishing top in the group could aid their chances of going further this term.
“I believe the two teams have done the job until now,” Wenger told reporters. “We have done it away from home now we have to finish the job at home. We played a draw there and now it is down to us to win the game.
“We have done the job in a convincing way. It is a luxury to be qualified after four games. If we finish the job after five games that will mean we will have done the job really well.”
Meanwhile, Wenger gave little away about whether striker Olivier Giroud would be handed a start, having headed home a late equaliser in the 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United last weekend.
He added of his fellow Frenchman: “Every week I leave top players on the bench and rotate. Olivier was out injured for a long time and is ready now.
“He is not forever on the bench. He will play games and start sometimes like everyone else.”
Arsenal are 5/4 to come out on top on Wednesday or 16/1 to win 3-1.
