Gael Monfils can’t wait to get his first ATP World Tour Finals campaign underway and is looking forward to playing Novak Djokovic. The Frenchman has never played in the season-ending tournament before but qualified for the action in London by winning the Citi Open in Washington four months ago and reaching the last eight at the Australian Open and the US Open semi-finals.
Monfils’ solid performances throughout the year have lifted the 30-year-old up to sixth in the world rankings and he is keen to do well in London.
“It means a lot to me, I am very happy. I can’t wait to get onto the court and play my game,” he said.
“It means the work I have put on the court with my team has been good. Playing here for the first time will definitely help me to continue in this way.
“I have to face Novak and it is another chance for me to try and beat him for the first time. We’ve played twice this year [at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada and the US Open] and I think I will definitely have to change my game plan. But it will be really fun.”
Monfils is 1/1 to beat Milos Raonic while Djokovic is 1/1 to get the better of Thiem in two sets.
