Barcelona boss Luis Enrique feels Sunday’s come-from-behind 2-1 win at Sevilla will only boost his players’ belief they can win the La Liga title.
The Spanish champions bounced back from their Champions League loss at Manchester City last Tuesday with a resolute display at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, where the home side had won five out of five in the league coming into the game.Sevilla’s good home run included a win over Atletico Madrid and they appeared on course to claim another big scalp when Vitolo gave them the lead after 15 minutes.
Barcelona responded well though, Lionel Messi levelling the scores just before half-time with his 500th goal in his 592nd game for the club .
Messi then turned provider as he set up Luis Suarez to net the winner after 61 minutes, moving Enrique’s men to within two points of league leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona are now 8/11 to retain their La Liga title, while Real are 11/8 to be crowned champions.
Enrique hopes the hard-earned three points will provide his side with a boost going forward, claiming the display in Seville strengthened his resolve to retain their championship.
“Comeback victories strengthen us, especially when you get them at a team that’s unbeaten at home,” Enrique said. “Now the players go away with their national teams and we hope they return unscathed.”
Enrique went on to praise the contribution of Messi after another landmark night for the Argentine.
“Leo has the ability to play in any position and interpret any situation,” he added. “There is nobody like him. We always try to get the best out of Messi.”
