Mike Phelan insists he remains optimistic even though his Hull City side are in the relegation zone after losing six Premier League games in a row.
The Tigers host Southampton on Sunday and are 12/1 to end their dismal sequence by beating Claude Puel’s team 1-0, while they are 2/5 to be relegated this season.
Hull started the season promisingly despite a summer exodus, that included boss Steve Bruce, and a raft of injuries.
However, they have plunged down the table in the last two months, and have experienced drubbings against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Former Manchester United stalwart Phelan is refusing to be too downhearted though, saying: “It’s a big learning curve for all of us. I’m relishing it. It’s not fazing me. I’m not depressed or down and I’m pretty confident.
“It’s about settling everything down. With the quality we’ve got and the togetherness we’re trying to get, I’m sure we can achieve something.
“However, Southampton have a squad comparable to any top team in the Premier League. They are a club on the up and we will have to be at our best to be competitive.”
Hull are 7/2 to keep a clean sheet against Southampton, while Tom Huddlestone is available at 12/1 to score at any time on Sunday.
