Espanyol vs Villarreal
Spanish La Liga 2016/17
Date: Sunday, 2nd October 2016
Kick-Off at 17:30 UK
Venue: Cornella-El Prat.
Villarreal have kept good form since the start of the 2016/2017 campaign, they will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run as they travel to Espanyol at RCDAE Stadium Cornella de Llobregat.
Espanyol’s poor home form continued last week, they lost 0-2 at home to Celta de Vigo. The Catalonian side nearly grabbed a point in the game, but they were unlucky as they conceded 2 goals in the last minute. G. Rossi and P. Sisto bored scored in the dying minutes of the game to break the hearts of the home team. Espanyol now sit 18th in the league table with 5 points, a win in this game could lift them out of the drop zone, depending on results else where.
Villarreal are among the La Liga top performers this season, they have been in an unbeaten run from the onset. They defeated Osasuna 3-1 at home last weekend to maintain the 4th spot in the league table, goals from Alexandre Pato, Bruno and G. Sansone ensured the 3 points for them.
Furthermore, Villarreal kept the good form going in the Europa League as the grabbed a 1-1 away draw against Steaua Bucuresti. R. Bone gave Villarreal the lead in the 9th minute, while S. Muniru pulled the two teams level in 20th minute as the games ended that way.
Both teams have one player each on their injury list, Espanyol will be missing P. Piatti while Villarreal will be without Soldado for the game as they are injured.
Espanyol have won only 5 games in their 32 games against Villarreal, they have lost 12 games to Villarreal. At RCDE, 9 of the games played between the two teams have ended in draw, while Espanyol have won trice and lost 4 games to Villarreal. Their last game at RCDE ended in a 2-2 draw.
Villarreal are the best of the two sides, they are currently unbeaten in the La Liga campaign. Also they have lost just once in all competitions this season, and are unbeaten in their last 7 games in all competitions.
I think Espanyol will suffer yet another home defeat in this game, while Villarreal’s unbeaten streak keeps going.
