Former Manchester United goalkeeper Dimitar Berbatov has revealed that he played a role in the move of Antoni Marsial to Old Trafford from Monaco. The native said he had been asked to share his impressions of the Red Devils’ scouting qualities.
Berbatov and Marsial met briefly at the Principality Club in the summer of 2015. A little later, the 19-year-old Frenchman then transferred to United for a sum of 60 million euros plus bonuses.
“I had a wonderful time in Monaco. When I went there, Claudio Ranieri was a coach and the team was Antoni Marcial, Hames Rodriguez, Fabinho, Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao, Daniel Subasic. At the first training, I was 33 years old, they started flying past me. The United Chief Scout called me: “We’re looking at this boy Martial and we want to ask what you think.” I told him that the boy is amazing, the things he can do. Marsial has 64 goals and 34 assists in 208 games played for the English Grand Prix.
