Women’s Super League: Man Utd forward Leah Galton and manager Marc Skinner win monthly award

Manchester United forward Leah Galton has won the Women’s Super League Player of the Month award for January, while her boss Marc Skinner has won Manager of the Month.

Galton scored three goals in two WSL games throughout January, netting twice against Birmingham in a 5-0 win and once in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham.

The 27-year-old’s impressive form has helped Manchester United move into third place, three points behind Chelsea and five adrift of league leaders Arsenal. Skinner’s side are unbeaten in five WSL games, scoring 16 goals and conceding just once.

Galton, who has been capped at England youth level, began her career at Leeds and joined Manchester United in 2018 from Bayern Munich.

She signed a new contract with United last February until June 2024 with an option of an additional year.

“I just want to be the best I can be for my team,” she told Sky Sports. “Come the new year I think I have definitely started to perform, so I just want to keep doing that until the end of the season.

“I just need to make sure I’m continuously doing that and that my mentality’s there, keep providing and hopefully we’ll get into that Champions League spot.”

Dowie wins Goal of the Month
Reading striker Natasha Dowie won the Goal of the Month award for her brilliant strike against Leicester on January 9.

Her perfectly-executed lob over goalkeeper Demi Lambourne in the 11th minute helped her side to a 1-0 win.

Dowie has scored six goals in the WSL so far this season, three behind Chelsea’s Sam Kerr.
