Vertongen hinted at a split with Tottenham. The defender revealed that Spain and Italy are options for his future.

Tottenham defender Ian Vertongen has indicated that he is open to parting with the club after the end of the season, when he becomes a “free agent”. The Belgian national, who turns 33 on Friday, does not reject the opportunity to play in another leading European championship, where he can learn a new language.

Vertongen has been a key figure in Tottenham since arriving at the club in 2012 with a transfer from Ajax. The footballer has 311 games and 14 goals with the Spurs team, but he has not been a regular member since Jose Mourinho took over as manager last November.

“I want to sign with the right club. It could be Spurs or some other club. It has to be an ambition club. I want to stay in Europe because the national team is important to me. I want to learn a new language too. Spain and Italy are options and the duration of the contract will also matter, “Vertongen told Play Sports Kot.

The Belgian has played 26 games this season, 25 of which were in the starting lineup. Tottenham ranked eighth in the Premier League standings with seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
