Tottenham must do better for Sanchez. Tottenham defender Davison Sanchez says the club must improve on their performances from this season.

Sanchez, who joined Tottenham from Ajax for £42million in the summer of 2017, has made 27 appearances for the north London club this term and has been a key figure in the heart of Jose Mourinho’s defence.

However, Spurs have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions and are currently eighth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea with nine games of the season remaining.

Tottenham’s low points this campaign include a 4-0 aggregate defeat to German side Leipzig in the Champions League last-16, and Colombian centre-back Sanchez admits they need to operate to a much higher standard having been finalists in the competition last season before missing out on lifting the European Cup with a defeat to Liverpool.

That was under boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has since been replaced by Mourinho, and Sanchez is aiming for a big finish push to the current campaign, particularly with Harry Kane on the verge of returning to first-team action and according to his teammate “doing very well” in training.

Sanchez told Sky Sports News: “I think everyone knows as a team we expect to do better.

“The Premier League is always hard but we need to improve, that’s why we put so much work in every day, we’ll see what’s going to happen but looking back we can’t play like we were doing before.

“We have to do better if we are going to finish in the position that we want.”
