Stoke City Under-23s boss Glyn Hodges

A LATE goal dented Stoke City’s hopes of securing victory over Newcastle United in the North East on Monday evening.

The Potters looked to be on course for three points courtesy of Julien Ngoy’s early strike at Whitley Park.
But they were reduced to 10 men with 25 minutes of the contest remaining when Ryan Sweeney was shown a second yellow card … and Newcastle ultimately made their numerical advantage count.
They grabbed an equaliser six minutes from time as substitute Callum Roberts forced the ball past Harry Isted from eight yards out.
It was tough for Glyn Hodges’ players to take who went ahead through Ngoy after just 16 minutes.
The Frenchman was recently on the bench for City’s Premier League encounter with Everton and he displayed his growing confidence with a superb strike as he span away from his marker and unleashed an unstoppable shot.
Hodges was forced to make a change just before half-time when Tom Edwards picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Mark Waddington.
The home side struck the woodwork in the second half and looked to be on course for an evening of frustrating before Roberts popped up to haul his side level against the 10 men of City.
City: Isted, Banks, Edwards (Mark Waddington 42), Lecygne, Edwards, Sweeney, Verlinden (Hakim Abdallah 83), Molina, Ngoy (Telford (72), Shenton, Taylor. Subs not used:  Sadiki, Gyollai
