Borussia Monchengladbach boss Andre Schubert admits that he will set his side up to contain Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. City are on a high after beating Barcelona 3-1 in their last European encounter and head into the match at Borussia-Park in second spot in Group C, three points better off than their Bundesliga opponents.
In September Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Gladbach 4-0 with Sergio Aguero scoring a hat-trick before substitute Kelechi Iheanacho added the final goal in stoppage time.
Schubert admits he was impressed with City on that occasion, saying: “We have learned our lessons from that game, but that does not change the fact that City have an incredibly strong squad. Their pressing is really high, you saw that in their home win over Barcelona.
“Pep Guardiola has put his stamp on Manchester City already, but of course you need great individual quality to play in his system. City have that in abundance.
“We are not going to try and pull something extraordinary out of the hat, it is about looking to contain Man City as best we can.”
Gladbach are enduring a difficult season domestically and are currently 13th in the Bundesliga standings having only won three of their first 11 matches.
They are available at 14/1 to beat City 1-0 on Wednesday and 5/1 to keep a clean sheet in the match. Meanwhile, Aguero is 8/11 to score at any time in the encounter for a City side that is 11/1 to win the Champions League outright this season.
