Milos Raonic is ready for the ‘difficult task’ of trying to defeat four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic at the ATP World Tour Championship in London. The big-serving Raonic opened his campaign at the O2 Arena with a comprehensive 6-3 6-4 win over Gael Monfils and now moves on to face Djokovic, who was pushed hard before overcoming Dominic Thiem 6-7 6-0 6-2.
It’s going to be a difficult task that I have ahead of me. Milos Raonic
And Raonic, who has lost all seven previous meetings with Djokovic, is preparing himself for a tough encounter against the world number two.
He told the official ATP Tour website: “I watched a little bit of his match. He was very commanding towards the end of his match – he really stepped up after a difficult, slow start.
“It’s going to be a difficult task that I have ahead of me. I feel like I’m doing some things well. I feel like I can do some things better.”
Raonic is 10/3 to secure a first win over Djokovic on Tuesday, with the Serb priced at 2/9and 5/4 to go on and claim yet another ATP World Tour Championship title.
Meanwhile, of his comfortable win over Frenchman Monfils, Wimbledon runner-up Raonic added: “I played well. I took care of my serve very efficiently.
“All those things came together nicely. I competed well, had a good attitude and hit the ball pretty well as well.”
Raonic showed few signs of the leg problem which had put his participation in London in doubt, with the Canadian having been forced to scratch from a semi-final with Andy Murray at the Paris Masters last week.
