Ranieri expects a ‘new Vard

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri expects his side to benefit from striker Jamie Vardy having ended his long goalless run with a midweek strike for England. The 29-year-old had gone 14 games for club and country without finding the net, but did so in style at Wembley, heading home superbly as the Three Lions were held to a 2-2 draw by Spain.

And Ranieri is hopeful that Vardy will be able that shot of confidence to help the Foxes improve their Premier League form, starting at Watford on Saturday.

The Italian told reporters: “It’s important. It was important for him and everyone. He never spoke about this, but I know goalscorers always want to score. Now I think it will be a new Vardy.

“I managed a lot of goalscorers. It’s not possible for them to score every time. Sometimes they have a little stop and then restart.

“He always works hard for the team and I watched the England match and the goal was fantastic. It helps me, helps the team and helps himself.”

Vardy is priced at 13/8 to find the net at any time against the Hornets and is 5/2 to be the first goalscorer for the visitors at Vicarage Road, while Leicester are available at 11/2to secure a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, midfielder Danny Drinkwater is a major doubt for the clash with the Hornets, as he continues to be troubled by a rib injury which ruled him out of international duty.

Ranieri added: “Danny had little rib injury – when he breathes he doesn’t breathe very well.

“He trained but I never asked how he was – tomorrow before training I’ll ask how he feels. He’s 50-50.”
