Summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan is adamant that he will fight to try and become a regular starter for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. The 27-year-old Armenia international joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund for a fee reported to be in excess of £27million, signing a four-year contract at Old Trafford in early July.
However, since arriving in England the talented forward has struggled for form and fitness and has so far made just one Premier League start for United and has yet to complete a full 90 minutes.
Mkhitaryan, though, is not ready to give up on his United career at such an early stage and is hoping to make an impression in training and force his way back into Mourinho’s plans.
He told The Guardian: “It doesn’t matter if they buy me for, I don’t know, £38 million or £40million, I am not guaranteed to play the games.
“So I am trying to do my best during the training to earn this place to play and then we will see, because I don’t think I will play every game – depending on the tactical situation, depending on the opponent.
“But I will do everything to try and help the team.”
United are back in action on Saturday when they play host to Burnley, with the Red Devils aiming to improve on a run of one win in their last six league games.
They are, however, boosted by a 1-0 midweek derby win over Manchester City in the League Cup, having been routed 4-0 at Chelsea last weekend.
The hosts are 1/5 to secure victory at Old Trafford and are 9/2 to triumph by a 2-0 scoreline, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic 4/6 to score at any time and end a run of five league games without a goal.
