Lucas always saw star potential in TAA. Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has revealed he thought defender Trent Alexander-Arnold would become one of the best players in the world when first seeing the player in training..

Alexander-Arnold made his Liverpool debut in an EFL Cup match against Tottenham in 2016, the year before Leiva left the club for Serie A side Lazio, and has gone on to become a first-team regular under Jurgen Klopp.

The 21-year-old has made 125 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, scoring six times, and is regarded as one of the best attacking right-backs in the world.

Already Alexander-Arnold has won the Champions League with Liverpool. Who beat the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich on their way to the final in Madrid last year where they saw off Tottenham, and helped them achieve 97 points as Premier League runners-up last term.

This term Alexander-Arnold has racked up 12 league assists, the second highest in the division, to help Liverpool go 25 points clear at the top of the table.

And Lazio’s Leiva claims he saw potential in Alexander-Arnold when the defender was only a 16-year-old in the club’s training sessions.

Speaking to LFCTV, he said: “I remember a few moments of Trent. I remember he came with us to play in a friendly game and I think he was 16. He was very shy and Brendan [Rodgers] was in charge.

“I remember he wasn’t comfortable but we could see he was at a different level. I would say, for his age, his quality on the ball.

“So after he started to train with us in the first team, he waited patiently, but we were sure that he would be a Liverpool player and he would be one of the best players in the world.”
