Ronald Koeman insists he is completely focused on the spending three years at Everton and not on what the next move in his career might be. The Dutchman arrived on Merseyside this summer after a successful two-year stint at Southampton served as his introduction to English football.
Everton made a promising start to the Koeman era but have stuttered recently and go into Saturday’s home clash with Swansea City having won only once in six league games since mid-September.
I don’t think I signed for three years and will be out after one year. Ronald Koeman
Koeman meanwhile was forced to deflect media speculation that he is using the Goodison Park job as a stepping stone to becoming Barcelona manager down the line.
The former central defender is intrinsically linked to the Catalan giants having scored the only goal at Wembley in 1992 when Barcelona beat Sampdoria to become champions of Europe for the first time.
Koeman says he has not got any thoughts of a return to the Nou Camp.
“They always speak about Koeman and Barcelona. Everyone knows I have a relationship with Barcelona. Everyone says, ‘One day Koeman will be the coach in Barcelona’.
“I had a little bit in my mind that when I went to Valencia it was maybe a good step to do the next step to Barcelona. But now I’m more experienced. You cannot plan what is going to happen. You cannot plan your life. In life everything is possible. In football everything is possible,” he told the Daily Mail.
Everton are 4/7 to beat Swansea on Saturday, with the visitors 11/2 and the draw 10/3. Koeman is focusing solely on the job he wants to do with his current club.
“The best thing is to believe in the project; how Everton is. It is not the final moment in this project. Of course not. I signed for three years. I don’t think I signed for three years and will be out after one year,” he added.
Everton are 7/2 to secure a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.
