City boss delighted following Old Trafford draw…
Joe Allen’s second goal in as many games secured the Potters the result their performance deserved after Anthony Martial’s earlier effort looked to have secured maximum spoils for the hosts.
Speaking to bet365 following the game, Hughes was beaming with pride and lavished his players for producing what he described as ‘a big performance on a big stage’.
“You always need belief both in the team and in yourself as an individual if you are to come to places like this and get a positive result,” the Welshman beamed.
“Of course you need a little bit of luck too, and maybe we had a little bit of that today, but I don’t think anybody could begrudge us of the point that we have earned.
“It’s a great point for us, and a deserved one I would suggest, and you have to credit the guys because to a man they were absolutely top drawer today and produced big performances.
“Our record here hasn’t been great over the years, but as we did at Chelsea last season, we have come here today and claimed our first Premier League point, which is really pleasing.
“I was delighted that we acquitted ourselves as well as we did and reaped our rewards, because in other years we have maybe been a little hard done by in matches like this.”
Despite the Potters going into the fixture languishing at the foot of the table, Hughes says confidence was never an issue and whilst outsiders predicted a straightforward afternoon for Jose Mourinho’s side, within the camp there was a totally different feeling.
“Before the game I don’t think too many people gave us too much hope of getting anything today, but that wasn’t the case within the camp,” he added.
“We showed some really good and positive signs in our last two home matches against Hull City and West Bromwich Albion and we have been able to build upon those this afternoon.
“Like I said before, this is a big result for us, especially with going into the international break, and I sense that we are up and running now.”
