Hampshire have signed promising all-rounder Asher Hart, 24 hours after veteran seamer James Tomlinson announced his retirement.
Hampshire seamer James Tomlinson has announced he is to retire from first-class cricket at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old left-armer has made 129 first-class appearances since making his debut back in 2002 but he has now decided to “head back to the den”.
Tomlinson, whose career has been hampered by a succession of injuries, has taken a total of 382 first-class wickets at an average of 31.92 with a best of 8-46, and a further 39 List A wickets at 29.48.
Hart, 19, was previously on Durham’s books but will move south ahead of the 2017 domestic season.
“We’re pleased to welcome Asher to Hampshire – he is a promising all-rounder who will add both depth and competition to the squad for next year’s campaign,” said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.
Hart claimed 26 wickets at an average of just 16.04 with the ball for Durham Academy and averaged 36.75 with the bat.
He is eager to grab his chance at Hampshire.
Hart said: “I’m delighted to join Hampshire and grateful for this new opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting started and working hard ahead of next season.”
Tomlinson will move into coaching at the Ageas Bowl.
England meanwhile are 4/1 to win the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
Australia are 10/3 while Pakistan can be backed at 12/1.
