Southampton vs Liverpool
England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 11 February 2018
Kick-Off at 16:30 UK
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton).
Southampton have finally ended the streak of 12 consecutive Premier League games without a win last Saturday when they came back from being a goal down to beat West Bromwich Albion 2.3 at The Hawthorns. Mario Lemina, Jack Stephens and James Ward-Prowse bagged goals to help Mauricio Pellegrino’s side escape the drop zone after such a dreadful run of form.
The Argentine manager still has a mountain to climb to lead his team towards safe waters and his men will have one hell of a task to back up the win from The Hawthorns as the likes of Liverpool com to visit St. Mary’s on Sunday. The Reds could easily drop out of the top four in the Premier League standings in case of a slip up here (the fifth-placed Spurs are only two points away at the moment), which is why we don’t believe Jurgen Klopp will make some important changes to his squad even though the team has a Champions League fixtures with Porto away at Dragao scheduled for Wednesday evening.
The Reds have the league’s second strongest attacking line which has shown its potential in the recent set of fixtures as well. The Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah is playing the season of his career and he confirmed his amazing spell of form once again seven days ago when he notched the opener in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Spurs. Liv’pool have thus notched five goals in last two games and they should be able to keep the high-scoring trend going against Southampton whose last five games in the Premier League have seen the BTTS pick “come in”.
Southampton vs Liverpool: Head-to-head
Interestingly, none of last five head to head games between these two teams has seen both teams on the scoreline.
The Saints were undefeated in five consecutive meetings with Liverpool before the Reds clinched a 3-0 win in this term at Anfield.
Liverpool have lost 18 and won 14 of 42 games at St. Mary’s where they have lost two and drawn one of last three matches with Southampton.
Southampton vs Liverpool: Prediction
In spite of Liverpool’s struggles on recent travels to Hampshire, we believe they will take exploit Southampton’s defensive holes to the max and clinch an important three-pointer in a high-scoring contest.
We all know how Klopp’s defensive line is vulnerable which is why our standout bet is Liverpool to win & BTTS at the odds of 3.40.
We’ll also take Mohamed Salah to score anytime at 2.10 odds.
