Saint-Etienne vs Strasbourg
Date: 24th November 2017
Kick off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade Geoffroy-Guichard (Saint-Etienne).
Strasbourg may be just a single point above the red zone at this stage, but they are at the same time only five points adrift of the seventh-placed Saint-Etienne ahead of their 14th round opener at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard this Friday.
Even though the hosts remain the favourites to clinch the spoils here, it’s the visiting side who’ll come into the clash in high spirits.
Les Verts have made radical changes after the catastrophic 0-5 loss to Olympique Lyon at home before the international break.
Julien Sable took over Oscar Garcia on the bench, but the French expert did not manage to turn Saint-Etienne’s fortunes around on his debut last Saturday as the team suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to the likes of Lille away from home.
The new manager will thus be desperate to claim the spoils against the newly-promoted side here knowing that his side will hardly get points on board later on following a couple of quite challenging fixtures in the next couple of weeks.
The visitors may have been struggling a lot at the start of the season in the higher division, but they seem to have found the winning formula lately as they suffered no more than a single defeat in last eight matches in all competitions.
Thierry Laurey’s men will head into the clash at Stade Geofroy-Gucihard with an improved confidence after beating Rennes 2-1 at home last time out.
Saint-Etienne vs Strasbourg: Head to head
The draw has put the two likes together in the last 32 round of Coupe de France a month ago when Strasbourg claimed a win after penalty shootout as the regular 90 minutes saw a 1-1 draw.
Prior to that, the two teams have not locked horns in nine years following Strasbourg’s struggles in the second tier of the French football.
