The race for the Premier League Golden Boot is heating up again after Mohamed Salah responded to Sergio Aguero’s four-goal tally against Leicester with his 22nd league strike of the season.
Salah put daylight between himself and his Argentine rival with a well-taken finish shortly before half-time at St Mary’s, and had a hand in Liverpool’s other goal too in their 2-0 win over Southampton.
Aguero had scored four for the third time in his Manchester City career during their 5-1 victory against Leicester, which briefly took him level with the Liverpool forward in the scoring charts.
Raheem Sterling (15) and Jamie Vardy (12) also scored in the first half at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, and occupy fourth and fifth spots of the table.

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (12) was another to add to his impressive season with a sixth-minute opener against the Saints, and manager Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to both he and Salah after the game.
“I really think [Sergio] Aguero and [Harry] Kane and a few others are really good players as well, but our boys are important for us,” he said. “I love them because of their skills, their attitude but their work-rate is outstanding.
“They profit from our style of play as well. They play in areas where they like to have the ball. But, in this strong league, you cannot be third without fantastic players. They are two of them.”
