Lazio vs Genoa
Italy – Serie A
Date: Monday, 5 February 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Lazio kept the third position in spite of the 2-1 loss to Milan thanks to SPAL’s late goal which denied Inter a three-pointer in Ferrara last weekend. Biancocelesti will, however, be looking to bounce back from the defeat this Monday when they are to host the bottom-half Genoa side in the last game of the Matchday No 23 in Serie A.
The good news for Simone Inzaghi is Ciro Immobile’s return in mid-week’s Coppa Italia clash. The league’s top scorer skipped the last couple of games in Serie A due to injury, but he is expected to make the starting lineup on Monday when Genoa come to visit the capital.
Lazio will thus be back at Stadio Olimpico where they’ve had a decent success of late. Inzaghi’s men have won three on the bounce in front of the home crowd in the league, netting an impressive tally of 12 goals in the process. Now with Immobile back in the squad, we can only expect the continuation of such trend.
Genoa have improved their defensive performances since Davide Ballardini took charge in November, but they won’t come into this in the highest of spirits after losing two on the trot in Serie A. Truth be told, the opposition included the likes of Juventus and Udinese, but Ballardini still has plenty of reasons to be worried about given that Il Rossoblu have only two goals in last seven matches in all competitions.
Lazio vs Genoa: Head-to-head
Overall, Lazio lead the head to head tie by three wins ahead of their 27th meeting with Genoa.
Each of last four H2H encounters between the two teams saw both sides on target as well as at least four goals scored.
Lazio have won three and drawn one of these four outings.
Lazio vs Genoa: Prediction
Biancocelesti have a nice opportunityy to book the Champions League spots at the end of the season and there are no doubts they will be highly motivated to collect points from juts thi stype of matches.
Since none of last seven games Genoa played saw three or more goals, we won’t back the high scoring trend from H2H game sto be continued. Instead, we will go with Lazio to keep a clean sheet as an alternative option (Il Rossoblu have only netted twice in last seven games) at the odds of 2.10.
