Juventus vs Genoa
Italian Serie A
Date: Monday, 22 January 2018
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Allianz Stadium (Turin).
Arguably, the Scudetto race has now become a two-party affair between Juventus and Napoli. Inter and Roma are going head to head on Sunday, and Juventus will be looking to keep up the pressure on Napoli as they take on struggling Genoa on Monday.
Obviously, La Vecchia Signora are the heavy favorites here. The Grifone are barely hanging on to a place in Serie A, despite having strung together a four game unbeaten streak. They have lost nine games so far this term and have inched up the table, but the general feeling is that another bad patch is just around the corner that could see them flirting with relegation yet again. Meanwhile, Juventus are only a point behind Napoli as they chase a seventh straight Scudetto and are focused on finally conquering Europe after twice coming up short in 2015 and 2017.
Juventus have returned to the strong defensive outfit that have made them the no. 1 side in Italy, with 11 clean sheets in Serie A and given that Genoa have failed to score in over half of their road fixtures, it’s hard to see them nicking a goal at Allianz Stadium. Overall, Juventus have just conceded one goal in their last 11 across all competitions heading into this match.
To complicate matters, the visitors are missing key man Eran Zukanovic, which leaves them short up front, and although the hosts are missing Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado in attack, they’re not exactly lacking in attacking options, with Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandzukic among those available to Massimiliano Allegri.
